Strengthening Partnerships for a Sustainable Food Future
We were honored to welcome H.E. Mirza Nurhidayat, Ambassador of Indonesia to Namibia and Angola, and H.E. Arief Hidayat, Ambassador of Indonesia to Zambia and Zimbabwe, along with our esteemed stakeholders and business partners from across Africa.
This meaningful occasion reflects the growing collaboration between Indonesia and Africa, as we work together to enhance food security, livestock health, and sustainable agriculture. As an Indonesian leading vertically integrated agri-business company, Japfa operates through comprehensive upstream and downstream activities. Our upstream divisions focus on producing affordable animal proteins through animal feed, breeding, commercial farming, and primary processing. Meanwhile, the downstream operations deliver value-added food product solutions tailored for the HoReCa sector (hotels, restaurants, and catering) as well as for private consumption - ensuring quality and accessibility from farm to table.
During the meeting, Hon. Matengu Simushi, President of the Regional Council of Namibia, shared that there remains a significant shortage in poultry production across six countries in Southern Africa — Namibia, Angola, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. As a result, these countries currently rely on imported frozen chicken to meet local demand, highlighting the urgent need to strengthen local poultry production capacity.
Mr. Teguh Prajitno, Head of Division of Vaksindo Animal Health & Livestock Equipment (AHLE), emphasized that sustainable animal production is often challenged by raw material supply disruptions and disease outbreaks. For countries in Africa to achieve efficiency, feed production capacity is crucial, as feed accounts for nearly 70% of poultry production costs. Globally, 20–25% of livestock production is lost due to diseases, underscoring the need for strong prevention and animal health management. With our integrated expertise, Japfa, together with Vaksindo, remains committed to supporting the region through both animal feed and animal health products, such as vaccines, helping
to mitigate the risks of production failure and enhance farmers’ resilience.
Ambassador Mirza Nurhidayat highlighted the importance of strengthening food security initiatives, while Mr. Mark Gerald Eman, Country Head of Japfa Myanmar, Ivory Coast and Thailand, reiterated the significance of the Asian–African movement established in 1955, symbolizing solidarity and shared growth between the two regions. As part of Japfa and Vaksindo commitment to delivering affordable and high-quality solutions, we showcased our capabilities in livestock production, food processing, animal vaccines, aquaculture, and feed innovation — all key areas for partnership and mutual development in Angola, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
We believe that progress is best achieved through collaboration and shared purpose. Together, we aim to strengthen regional food systems and contribute meaningfully to the national development goals across both regions.
