PT. Vaksindo Satwa Nusantara participated seminar at the ILDEX Indonesia event which was held on 9-11 November 2022.  Indonesia's success in overcoming Avian Influenza cases was the topic presented by Dr. Teguh Y Prajitno as President Director Animal Health & Livestock Equipment – ​​JAPFA Group.

The success of delivering the seminar was demonstrated by the enthusiasm of the visitors who filled the seminar room. Dr. Teguh conveyed that the Avian Influenza that was initially discovered in China in 1996 has become a case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza which has been routinely prolonged until now.  

Prevention of Avian Influenza can be done by implementing biosecurity, management, and vaccination according to poultry needs. Vaccination which was emphasized in the discussion of the seminar this time became a means of controlling and eradicating HPAI.  Vaccination is also able to minimize clinical symptoms, mortality, and reduce the number of susceptible birds thereby reducing the amount of virus circulating in the field, which is capable of further transmission.  Vaccination can work optimally only in combination with good biosecurity and good livestock management. Still, bird flu vaccines have not been designed to prevent infection and performance failures such as decreased egg production.  Vaccine effectiveness is also influenced by other factors such as vaccine administration, poultry health status, vaccination schedule, etc.

At present, the bird flu virus in Indonesia is endemic and cannot be eradicated, because Indonesia has implemented vaccine seed renewal using antigenic cartography, and post-vaccination monitoring, as well as sampling at live bird markets.  Dr. Teguh also said that Indonesia should be proud because it has been able to control bird flu through improved vaccination and biosecurity and so on so that other countries can be interested in learning from this success story.
